Hey Friend!
If I could rewind the clock.
I would avoid the pain I experienced in my career.
And, focus on these 4 things I'd do differently:
#1 - Stop comparing my career with others.
When I graduated in 2008/09, it was during the financial crisis.
I ended up joining a small company with a low salary.
I felt embarrassed for a long time. I wish I didn't.
#2 - I would take time to learn new things and be good at them.
I thought I was a failure if I completed my work too slowly.
It turns out that what's more important is the quality of my work.
Not just speed.
#3 - I would be friendly with my colleagues, not friends.
It's okay to not expect to become best friends at work.
Once I stopped trying to get people to like me, I gained respect as a young leader.
#4 - I would be more understanding of my boss.
I realise that my boss has a bigger boss and is trying to meet expectations.
It helped me see my boss's perspective and be more empathetic.
We're all trying to do our best.
Remember: You are the most important person in your career.
If you don't care about your career, don't expect that others will.
So Friend, what are you doing for your career today? :)
With love,
Mei Phing xx
